During this record breaking wet summer, our crews are out and about trimming, mowing and cleaning Albury's vast natural areas.
AlburyCity cares for and maintains more than 1,200 hectares of natural areas on behalf the growing community.
This is an area equivalent to 677 Melbourne Cricket Grounds, and includes streetscapes, parks, reserves, recreation spaces, sports grounds and walkways.
Within these spaces are 52 hectares of sport-playing surfaces, more than 85 walkways, 25 community facilities such as community centres, pre-schools and child-care facilities, 89 playgrounds, and the iconic QEII Square & Botanic Gardens.
"Council's care and maintenance program includes the mowing of grass in these areas to ensure community enjoyment, to preserve our natural environment, provide high quality sporting surfaces, and keep our city looking beautiful," said Deputy CEO, Brad Ferris.
"We prioritise mowing based on a number of factors including the amount of community usage at each location, with high profile sites such as QEII square, The Botanic Gardens, Noreuil Park, Hovell Tree Park and sports fields being a high priority.
"Laneways and roadside slashing is a lesser priority," Mr Ferris said.
Mowing schedules are reviewed regularly to ensure they meet current needs and align with community expectations.
"We've just experienced our wettest January in 40 years, and this rainfall, combined with high humidity and warm weather are all contributors to grass growing extremely quickly," Mr Ferris explained.
"It has been a huge challenge to keep up with this unprecedented grass growth, and we thank our community for their patience as we work through the task,"
