Major upgrade for Duncraig Senior High School underway

  • Construction started on $41 million redevelopment at Duncraig Senior High School
  • School's permanent capacity to rise to 1,850 students
  • Part of Cook Labor Government's $1.5 billion school infrastructure program

A major upgrade at Duncraig Senior High School is progressing, with students set to benefit from a new state-of-the-art two-storey science hub, two-storey English block, and refurbished administration building.

Building company PS Structures Pty Ltd has been appointed to construct new classrooms, along with other additions and refurbishments - which will increase school's permanent capacity from approximately 1,300 students to 1,850 students.

In all, 12 new state-of-the-art laboratories will be built in the double-storey science block, while the English block will house 17 new classrooms, along with staff studies.

The existing science block will be converted into modern IT laboratories, and the existing languages classrooms converted into art studios. The existing maths area will also be converted to staff studies.

The school will also benefit from additional funding for a school chaplain, a psychologist, VET careers practitioners, and a Year 9 VET taster program.

Additional parking for staff, visitors and parents will also be included in this major project. The project is expected to be completed within the 2025 school year.

The project is part of the Cook Labor Government's significant $1.5 billion capital works program to deliver better public schools across Western Australia.

As stated by Education Minister Tony Buti:

"This major construction project will provide students and staff with the latest technology, and modern classroom spaces to inspire their teaching and learning.

"We want to make sure every child has access to the best possible learning environments, and this $38 million redevelopment will certainly equip Duncraig Senior High School with up-to-date facilities."

As stated by Hillarys MLA Caitlin Collins:

"This is such an important project for Duncraig, and one I have strongly supported, so it is great to see it now under construction.

"The school has such a proud history of excellence, and this major redevelopment will ensure it continues to serve the community well into the future."
