Criminal Groups Squad detectives have charged a man for allegedly breaching a Serious Crime Prevention Order under Operation Talon.
Operation Talon is an ongoing high-visibility policing operation designed to disrupt and suppress Organised Crime Networks (OCNs) and Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMCGs).
As part of ongoing Operation Talon taskings, about 8.50am on Tuesday 9 April 2024, officers attached to State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad and Sydney City Police Area Command executed a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) compliance check at unit in Sydney.
The unit is linked to a 40-year-old man who is subject to a Serious Crime Prevention Order (SCPO).
An SCPO can contain such prohibitions, restrictions, requirements and other provisions as the court considers appropriate for the purpose of protecting the public by preventing, restricting or disrupting involvement by a person in serious crime related activities.
During the compliance check, police located approximately $13,000 cash and a mobile phone hidden in two separate fire extinguisher cupboards located in common areas of the unit block.
Following subsequent forensic analysis of the items found, about 7.30am yesterday (Tuesday 16 April 2024), Criminal Groups Squad detectives – with assistance from Central Metropolitan Region ODIN – returned to the Sydney address and arrested a 40-year-old man.
He was taken to Day Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of contravene serious crime prevention order and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.
The man was refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court today (Wednesday 17 April 2024).
