Man due in court charged with assault at Dubbo

A man is due to re-appear in court today charged after a man was allegedly knocked unconscious in Dubbo at the weekend.

The incident occurred about 11.50pm (Saturday 10 October 2020), when a 31-year-old man – who is an off-duty police officer – stopped to speak with two people on Macquarie Street.

The officer lost consciousness after a 25-year-old man allegedly punched him to the right side of the head, knocking him to the concrete footpath.

Officers from the Orana Mid-Western Police District were alerted and the man was arrested a short time later.

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail and appeared in Dubbo Bail Court today (Sunday 11 October 2020), where he was again refused bail to appear in the same court tomorrow (Monday 12 October 2020).

The officer, who is attached to a Western Region command, was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital where he was treated for concussion before being released several hours later.
