Marine Safety - Easter long weekend

Northern Territory Police are reminding Territorians to be conscious of their safety when out on the water over the Easter long weekend.

Every year many Top End residents and visitors to the Territory spend Easter out on the waterways fishing, and every year police are tasked with a high number of search and rescue operations. Most incidents that occur on the water are avoidable with careful planning and preparation.

Senior Sergeant Sandi Mellon said, "It's a busy time for the Water Police team. We'll be out and about doing safety checks on the water, ensuring that boat goers have the required safety equipment on board.

"Most Territorians have a relaxed approach to marine safety, especially when you involve alcohol, and we urge everyone to take care - check the tides, be prepared and take care of those on board."
