At Snowy Monaro Regional Council's September Ordinary Council Meeting, Councillors Peter Beer and Lynley Miners were re-elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor, with no other candidates contesting the vote.
The Mayoral and Deputy Mayoral election was required to be held, as stipulated by sections 230 and 231 of the NSW Local Government Act 1993.
While the general local government elections in NSW have been postponed until December 2021, the legislation has no provision to allow the postponement of the Mayoral and Deputy Mayoral elections hence why it was conducted in the Cooma Council Chambers on 16 September 2021.
