Mayor's Christmas Tree Appeal launched for 2019

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill is asking businesses and residents to dig deep to support this year's Mayor's Christmas Tree Appeal.

Councillor Hill said Council was seeking the community's help to give an extra spark to families in need this Christmas.

"The festive season can be a tough time of year for many families living in the Townsville region," Cr Hill said.

"We're urging the public to dig deep to give these families the chance to enjoy the festive season this year.

"After the unprecedented monsoon this year has been tougher for some families than other years. It's so important for us to help these families enjoy what should be a magical time of year."

Cr Hill said cash donations would go towards the purchase of hampers to put food on the table this Christmas.

"We will be distributing food hampers for locals in need," Cr Hill said.

"Christmas can be a hard time for many people, and we hope this can add some much-needed joy to those who are struggling.

"The strong community spirit really shines through when we all lend a helping hand – together we can all make a huge difference for people who would otherwise go without."

Donations can be made online at www.townsville.qld.gov.au/mcta or at 103 Walker St, Townsville City.
