Construction has officially begun on RetireAustralia’s unique new vertical retirement village The Verge at Burleigh Golf Club with Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate performing the ceremonial turning of the first sod on the project.
The Mayor was joined by RetireAustralia Chief Executive Officer Dr Brett Robinson, Burleigh Golf Club President Peter Evans and Gold Coast Division 12 Councillor Pauline Young in the sod turning ceremony at the site of the future retirement community as part of the special celebrations.
A partnership between RetireAustralia and Burleigh Golf Club, The Verge is set to redefine seniors living on the Gold Coast and will offer spacious well-designed independent living apartments and an exceptional lifestyle overlooking the club’s 10th hole and lush green fairways beyond.
Dr Robinson said the retirement community, including a new wellness hub for residents and golf club members, will be built in three stages, with the first stage expected to be completed by late 2020.
“The start of construction is an exciting milestone for any new community and we’re delighted to celebrate this occasion with Mayor Tom Tate, Councillor Pauline Young, Burleigh Golf Club executives and board members, as well as our valued customers,” Mr Robinson said.
“With 30 per cent of stage one already secured through expressions of interest, The Verge is certainly resonating with buyers and we’re looking forward to watching our vision become a reality as construction progresses.
“The Verge will set a new standard for vertical retirement living in the region, offering a fulfilling lifestyle for active and independent over 65s complemented by the care and support they need to ensure they have the freedom to live life on their terms.
“This new community will also help to address the critical undersupply of quality seniors housing options for residents within the surrounding area who want to stay close to their family and support networks as they age.
“This is an issue being experienced in various metropolitan and regional areas across Australia and forms an important part of our strategy for our new retirement communities.”
More than 17,000 people aged over 65 are living within five kilometres of Burleigh Golf Club yet there are currently less than 300 retirement dwellings in the area.
Burleigh Golf Club Manager Ian Cottle said he was looking forward to being able to welcome the first residents at The Verge to the golf club community.

The Verge is RetireAustralia’s first new retirement village to be co-located with a popular local golf club and their first vertical retirement village to be constructed on the Gold Coast.
Close to beautiful beaches and some of the region’s best dining experiences, shopping and entertainment hubs, The Verge is designed especially for active seniors with flexible independent living options tailored to each individual.
The pet-friendly one, two and three-bedroom independent living apartments will feature floor-to-ceiling windows to make the most of the sweeping views, spacious balconies, high quality inclusions and age-friendly designs.
Community spaces will include a rooftop terrace, resident’s bar and a wellness hub with a gymnasium, indoor and outdoor activity areas, salon, café and lush gardens, all within wandering distance of the existing Burleigh Golf Club clubhouse.
Independent living apartments are priced from $530,000 and expressions of interest are now open.
