  • Western Australia's top innovative businesses have been recognised at the 2022 Innovator of the Year Awards.

Innovation and ICT Minister Stephen Dawson said the awards were an important event to showcase the State's brightest innovators and entrepreneurs and support them to realise the full potential of their innovative creation.

Neurotologix Pty Ltd was named the WA Innovator of the Year 2022 in recognition of their remote patient monitoring device for dizziness and vertigo. The business received $70,000 to commercialise their innovation, and through BioDesign Australia, they have won the added support of three PhD students to further their program research.

Winners named in five other categories include the following:

    • Rio Tinto Emerging Innovation Category - Protective Pty Ltd for their broken neutral protection device.
    • Rio Tinto Growth Category - Assuro for their 'Bank guarantees and bonds made easy' project.
    • Business News 'Great for the State' Award Winner - Xsights Digital Pty Ltd for the XioT Health Tag, used for livestock health and welfare monitoring.
    • Woodside Energy Award Winner - Sentient Hubs for their dynamic master planning platform.
    • Wesfarmers Award Winner - Lixa for their Neo X platform technology, used for mitigating antimicrobial resistant bacterial infections.

Two finalists, Vedi and Speed Signature, were selected to attend an Entrepreneurial Mindset Bootcamp hosted by the Centre for Entrepreneurial Research and Innovation in Nedlands.

During the event, Minister Dawson also announced that WA will host the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program (MIT REAP). The event has been scheduled to take place in June 2023 and is expected to attract visitors from the United States, Dominican Republic, Hungary, and Brazil.

The announcement follows WA's successful bid to join Cohort 9 of MIT REAP earlier this year.
