Motorcyclist dies in Cranbourne North hit-run

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating following a fatal hit-run collision in Cranbourne North this morning.

Investigators have been told a motorcyclist was struck by a vehicle on Thompsons Road near the intersection of Lansell Drive about 1.40am.

The driver of the vehicle, believed to be a light-coloured Holden Commodore, failed to stop and continued driving west on Thompsons Road.

A number of witnesses stopped and rendered assistance to the rider, but sadly, he died at the scene.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

It is believed the vehicle will have extensive damage to the driver side and rear of the vehicle and police are urging anyone with information to contact them.

Traffic travelling east bound on Thompsons Road is being diverted between the South Gippsland Highway and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road while investigators examine the scene.
