NAIDOC Week - Time To Celebrate

MidCoast Council

MidCoast Council is proud to support NAIDOC Week events in the community that start next week.

Through the NAIDOC Funding program, Council provided $8000 to two groups to support events in Tea Gardens and Forster.

"Council staff look forward to attending these wonderful community led events across the region every year" said Alex Mills Manager Libraries, Community and Cultural Services.

"Attending NAIDOC events is a fantastic opportunity for our teams to deepen our relationships with the broader Aboriginal communities."

The community is also encouraged to visit Yalawanyi Ganya from 3 July to 10 July to view local artist Kaylah Slater Mitchell's exhibition - Always Here: Woven Through Time which is inspired by this year's NAIDOC Week theme 50 Years of Deadly.

The impressive exhibition showcases Kaylah's contemporary weaving practice honouring the strength, resilience and continuity of Aboriginal culture.

NAIDOC events welcome the whole community and are an opportunity to celebrate and learn more about Aboriginal culture.
