New Liverpool Police Station officially opened, NSW

A new $22.9 million police station at Liverpool has been officially opened today by NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione and Deputy Premier and Minister for Justice and Police, Troy Grant, NSW Police say.

The Commissioner and Deputy Premier were this morning joined by Liverpool Local Area Commander, Superintendant Peter Gillam, in a formal ceremony at the new facility, the largest police station in NSW.

Construction of the new station began in late 2014 and it has been fully operational since June of this year.

The new station accommodates General Duties Police with meal rooms, meeting facilities with Audio Visual Link (AVL) capabilities to enable a live broadcast, and an area to conduct interviews.

It also has improved security facilities with 62 CCTV cameras recording in high-definition and there is a control centre that can be converted into an emergency management centre at short notice.

The station will accommodate more than 200 police personnel, including officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and Prosecutors.

Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said the new station will allow officers to better service the community in the local area command.

"The state-of-the-art capabilities at the station not only mean police remain on the front foot when it comes to serving the public, but also provide the organisation with the tools necessary for future policing initiatives.

"The conference room can be utilised for larger-scale operational briefings with internal stakeholders and external agencies, improving their customer service interface," Commissioner Scipione said.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Justice and Police, Troy Grant, said "the government is committed to giving police the facilities and equipment they need in order to fight crime and protect community safety.

"It is great to see the new station is now up and running, with so many specialist units working together to detect, deter and prevent crime."

Supt Gillam said the new facilities will strengthen the Local Area Command’s crime-fighting capabilities.

"I’m proud to host the official opening of our new police station, the largest in the state.

"Our new station advances our policing capabilities and brings specialist resources from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and Prosecutions under the same roof, enabling them to work together to meet the needs of the community," Supt Gillam said.
