Brian will provide a valuable link between community members and various support services and agencies, helping to break down barriers and enabling greater access to services for rural residents.
The main focus of the role is to engage with people living in the Strathbogie Shire who are experiencing financial and personal concerns including depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues; relationship issues and; uncertainty about what the future holds.
Brian will work with people in their own setting, maintaining a regular contact and providing support in following up on referrals to various services and assisting people to build a range of support structures.
Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Chris Raeburn said Rural Outreach Workers played an important for communities.
"They play a direct role in supporting the whole community and those living in rural areas to improve their mental health and wellbeing," Cr Raeburn said.
"We know mental health is such a crucial issue in regional and rural areas and this new role will help to ensure all people from all corners of our Shire are being supported."
In order to gain a sound understanding of the challenges facing the community, Brian is encouraging people to complete a Rural Outreach Survey.

The survey should take around 10 to 15 minutes.
Brian will also conduct an online Q&A session at 7.30pm on Tuesday August 31 and Wednesday October 6 after the recent Victorian lockdown and rise in COVID-19 case numbers across the state.
"We know people are feeling more worried during COVID-19 and particularly during this current Victorian lockdown," Cr Raeburn said.
"Being aware of how you're feeling and knowing what you can do to look after yourself, including your mental wellbeing, is an important part of staying healthy during this challenging time.
"That's why we're giving community members the opportunity to meet and chat with our new Rural Outreach Worker Brian Hill."
