Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery was at Eaton Community College today to officially open the secondary school's brand new science facilities.
The new building was completed in April this year and provides state-of-the-art resources for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs.
The facilities include six bright and spacious classrooms, with flexible spaces which can open into larger learning areas for joint school projects.
It also includes laboratory and preparation rooms, a renovated staff room and meeting rooms for staff to prepare lessons and collaborate.
Students are now able to choose from a broad range of specialist science subjects and have purpose-designed classrooms to match.
The college opened in 2003 as a Years 7 to 10 middle school and in 2009 became a senior high school for Years 7 to 12, offering a wide range of Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and vocational education and training (VET) courses.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"These facilities provide an exceptional environment for STEM learning, and it is great to see firsthand how students make the most out of the opportunities these new facilities provide.
"STEM skills are critical for jobs of the future so it is always inspiring to see where students will get their big start, here in the classroom."
As stated by Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray:
"I'm thrilled Eaton Community College students are now able to utilise these new facilities which will allow them to access more specialised subjects in the STEM fields.
"By giving students a chance to access more options while at school, we are helping them unlock future opportunities.
"I look forward to seeing what the students and teachers here at Eaton Community College will be able to achieve together in the new state-of-the-art building."
