New Tool Unveiled for Workplace Harassment Complaints

Fair Work Commission

We have launched a new Workplace sexual harassment complaint options tool.

The interactive tool was developed in collaboration with the Fair Work Ombudsman and Australian Human Rights Commission and incorporates feedback from Respect@work member organisations. It aims to help people who experience sexual harassment at work decide which complaint pathway is right for them.

In Australia, complaints about sexual harassment can be handled by several government agencies. In most circumstances, you can only pick one complaint pathway. There are different rules, time limits and outcomes available, and it can be difficult to choose the right option. Our new tool makes this easier.

The new tool asks simple yes/no and multiple-choice questions. This includes questions about whether criminal conduct was involved, the timeframe and the type of help the person is looking for. It will then provide plain language information about the available options based on the users' answers.

This means a user can better understand the best option for them without providing detailed information about their experience. This is consistent with our trauma-informed approach to managing sexual harassment cases at the Commission.

The new tool builds on our existing resources and continues our focus on providing the right information, at the right time and in the right format.

You can access existing resources across our website, on our YouTube channel or in our Online Learning Platform. This includes our free workplace sexual harassment online course.
