Poets invited to take to the stage

Logan Libraries, in partnership with Word Travels, will host the 2026 Australian Poetry Slam's annual heat this month at the Wilbur Street Youth Centre.

The free event, on Friday, July 31, is open to everyone over the age of 13.

All participants need is an original poem and two minutes on the mic to win over the audience, with two competitors winning the chance to compete at the Queensland state finals.

Doors will open and poets can sign in from 6.30pm, with the slam starting at 7pm.

Caption: Internationally recognised spoken word artist and poet Huda the Goddess will be the MC and guest performer.

Stay up late for special night-time event

A free twilight immersive event, featuring talks, puppetry, circus elements, tasty eats and a whole lot more, will be on offer on Thursday, July 16 as part of Logan Art Gallery's latest exhibition.

ARC Circus and Luther Cora and his team from Yugambeh Aboriginal Dancers will present a performance of Living Sculptures: How the birds got their colours at the Logan Entertainment Centre (LEC).

Visitors can also experience the Birds of Australia STORYBOX in the LEC's forecourt. This 3D interactive cube features striking images of Australian birdlife from The Australian Museum.

The gallery will be open late on the same night with activities and events between 3pm and 8pm and visitors can view the Where do I belong? exhibition.

Limelight Café will be open in the LEC precinct and visitors are encouraged to bring along a picnic blanket and enjoy a night of creative fun and entertainment.

July start for Jimboomba road upgrades

Major upgrades to Queen, Bell and Ann Streets in Jimboomba will begin in mid-July.

The works will be delivered in stages to reduce disruption for local drivers.

Each street will be fully rebuilt and resurfaced, with works including underground service relocations, stormwater drainage upgrades and new kerb and channelling.

Other improvements include new driveway entrances and street lighting to improve visibility, safety and access for drivers and residents.

The works are expected to be complete in May 2027.

Residents will be notified before works begin on their street, with traffic management in place during construction.
