AusBiotech is encouraging the biotech sector to nominate talented industry colleagues for the 2023 Prime Minister's Prizes for Science, Australia's most prestigious awards for outstanding achievements in science.
Ranging between $50,000 - $250,000, the prizes reward excellence in scientific research, research-based innovation and excellence in science teaching, with a total of up to $750,000 up for grabs.
The Science Prizes are a valuable opportunity for the life sciences community to showcase their outstanding expertise and the value that their work contributes to the Australian economy and to the health of Australians and others worldwide.
The Prime Minister's Prizes for Science include:
- Prime Minister's Prize for Science ($250,000)
- Prime Minister's Prize for Innovation ($250,000)
- Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year ($50,000)
- Frank Fenner Prize for Life Scientist of the Year ($50,000)
- Prize for New Innovators ($50,000)
Last month AusBiotech congratulated AusBiotech members Adjunct Professor Alison V. Todd PhD FTSE and Dr Elisa Mokany, co-founders of SpeeDx Pty Ltd, for winning the 2022 Prime Minister's Prize for Innovation for their 'outstanding contribution to public health'. Together they founded the successful Australian biotech company, pioneering and commercialising diagnostic tests identifying cancer and infection diseases, including bacteria and resistance to antibiotics, thus helping in the global war against antimicrobial resistance.
The Prime Minister's Prizes for Science is part of the Inspiring Australia – Science Engagement Program.
