Nominations Open for Study NT International Student Awards

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government is attracting more international students to live, study and work in the Northern Territory, and providing professional development and growth opportunities while they are here.

The Study NT International Student Awards provide international students an opportunity to be recognised and celebrated for academic success and community mindedness.

Nominations for 2022 are now open until 18 November 2022, with the awards launched at an official ceremony last night.

To nominate an international student for International Student of the Year, International Student Volunteer of the Year, or a business or organisation for International Student Employer of the Year, visit the 2022 Study NT International Student Awards here website.

The awards program is just one of the ways the NT Government provides support to students studying in the Territory from overseas.

International students are an incredibly important part of the wider Territory community, delivering social and economic benefits, strengthening cultural diversity and boosting our local workforce.

The international education sector is worth $167 million to the economy and the Territory Labor Government is committed to growing the number of students from 3,000 to 10,000 over the next few years as the new Charles Darwin University city campus develops.

Quotes from Minister for International Education, Ngaree Ah Kit:

"International students are an important part of our community. They contribute to our economy, strengthen our workforce and add to our vibrant multicultural community.

"The Territory Labor Government proudly supports the Study NT International Student of the Year Awards to celebrate international students studying in the NT and showcase their achievements to the broader community.

"This is also an opportunity to grow this important sector by making the Northern Territory a destination of choice for students looking to travel from overseas to study in Australia."

Quotes from Study NT 2021 International Student of the Year, Jimena Espitia:

"I felt deeply humbled and thrilled to be showcasing the excellent work that thousands of international students contribute to the welcoming and vibrant Territory community. This platform was created for us, and it is available to all of us. I was able to receive it for the work I did with my peers, the local community, volunteering service and study providers.

"International students working on similar projects are capable and worthy of being awarded this honour too. The award helped me to progress my professional career in the events and conference industry, which I am passionate about."
