Noosa joins Small Business Friendly Councils Program

Noosa Council reaffirms its commitment to the shire's 7000+ small businesses with today's signing of the Small Business Friendly Councils (SBFC) charter.

"Small businesses play a vital role in our community," Mayor Clare Stewart said.

"They generate local employment, contribute to the local economy, and offer essential goods and services to our community.

"With this initiative, we're pledging to keep the needs of our many small businesses in mind when making decisions."

The Small Business Friendly Councils program - overseen by the Queensland Small Business Commissioner - aims to recognise and encourage councils to actively support small businesses.

May is Queensland Small Business Month and it's an opportunity to support local businesses who are the backbone of the Noosa community.

Council's Environment and Sustainable Development Director, Kim Rawlings, said Council offered a range of support options for small businesses and signing the Charter re-affirmed the organisation's commitment to the sector.

"Noosa Shire is home to just over 7000 GST registered businesses. Our ability to engage and deliver services to the business community is a critical factor in the future success of the Noosa Shire economy," she said.

"We're proud to sign the Charter and excited to explore new possibilities to support our business community in their dealings with Council."

Councils across Queensland are signing the SBFC charter, making a commitment to small businesses to:

  • Communicate and engage
  • Raise the profile and capability of small business
  • Support resilience and recovery
  • Simplify administration and regulation (red tape reduction)
  • Ensure fair procurement and prompt payment terms
  • Promote place-based activities.
