NSW police seek info following suspicious fire

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a suspicious fire on railway tracks on the state’s north coast yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 2.15am yesterday, emergency services were called to railway tracks along Tweed Valley Way, Murwillumbah, following reports of a fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW officers attended and extinguished the blaze a short time later.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

Despite homes evacuated around the area; no one was injured during the incident.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe the fire may have been deliberately lit.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident is urged to come forward and contact local police via Crime Stopers.
