The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Bolivia, led by former Minister of the Status of Women of Costa Rica, Cindy Quesada Hernández, has begun its deployment ahead of the upcoming election of departmental, regional, and municipal political authorities on March 22.
The OAS/EOM is composed of 25 specialists and observers from 14 nationalities. During its stay in Bolivia, in addition to conducting direct observation activities, the team will meet with government authorities, national and departmental electoral authorities, candidates, as well as members of civil society and academia, in order to gather different perspectives on the elections. On election day, the Mission will also be present in all nine departments of the country.
As part of its work, the Mission's team of specialists will analyze key aspects of the electoral process, such as organization, technology, and electoral justice, as well as campaign financing and political participation. After the elections, the Mission will present a preliminary report with observations and recommendations to strengthen Bolivia's electoral system.
This is the twenty-fifth (25th) Electoral Mission deployed by the OAS in Bolivia and is made possible thanks to contributions from Brazil, Korea, Spain, the United States, France, the Netherlands, and Panama.
