One-day car cruise, Australia wide to raise critical funds for cancer research

An enjoyable way to make a big impact on a national stage

Cancer Cruise is a family friendly one day event happening across the country this Sunday 6 March 2022. Despite postponing in November 2021 due to COVID, the highly anticipated event will go ahead and is set to raise much needed funds for Cancer Council.

The team behind the much-loved Box Rallies (Shitbox and Mystery Box Rally) are the driving force behind this fundraiser whom over the past twelve years, have raised more than $28 million for cancer research. Box Rallies was founded by James Freeman after he lost both his parents to cancer 12 months apart.

Due to COVID, Box Rallies will not be hosting the event in each state, it is now up to participants to set their cruise route as well as start and finishtimes or alternatively use the routes that have been prepared by Box Rallies.

James said, "We hope that people from all over Australia will 'Cruise for Cancer' and fundraise to have a direct impact on the success of cancer research. We are about funding the best cancer research projects with the best chance of positive results in Australia.

Cancer Cruise, part of Box Rallies, funds the highest ranked research programs as listed and vetted by Australia's cancer research scientific community from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Funding via the NHMRC is a Cancer Council initiative and as our partners they steer how the funds are distributed so they benefit all Australians to the highest level."

The impact of COVID in 2020 and 2021 has made it particularly difficult for teams to fundraise and Box Rallies has seen its expected fundraising total for the period reduced by as much as $7.2 million. Rallies are the reward for raising vital funds for cancer research but when the reward is unable to take place, the fundraising slows considerably.
