- Off-road vehicle (ORV) owners can apply for and renew their ORV registrations online from today
- Quad bikes and all-terrain vehicles must be registered before they can be used at permitted ORV areas in Western Australia
- Fees collected from registrations to support ongoing investment in ORV areas
Off-road vehicle (ORV) owners can now apply for and renew their vehicle registrations online, with ORV services added to the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure's (DTMI) DoTDirect platform.
The updatedControl of Vehicles (Off-road Areas) Act 1978, which passed through Parliament last year, removed the outdated requirement for ORV owners to attend in person and register their vehicle at a DTMI licensing centre.
Previously, owners needed to sign a statutory declaration confirming they met age and ownership requirements and agree that they would comply with relevant noise and safety requirements.
These requirements remain, but the process has now been streamlined and can be completed online.
In addition, for new registrations, owners will be given the option to be issued with a registration sticker as an alternative to ORV registration plates.
The Act requires all ORVs such as quad bikes and all-terrain vehicles be registered before they can be used at permitted ORV areas across the State.
Proceeds from registration fees will be re-invested into the Off-Road Vehicle Account to build, upgrade, and maintain ORV areas for the benefit of the community.
As stated by Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley:
"WA's off-road vehicle community and local governments have advocated for this change, and I'm pleased to see the launch of the ORV online registration platform.
"The new process will be easier and more convenient, with proceeds from registration fees re-invested into the community through the creation of new ORV areas and the maintenance of existing sites.
"I'd encourage all ORV owners to use the platform and register their vehicle."
As stated by Minister Assisting the Transport Minister Jessica Stojkovski:
"This initiative supports the amended legislation by making it easier for ORV owners to register and renew their vehicles online through DoTDirect.
"These changes will deliver a more streamlined and user-friendly process.
"This is part of the Cook Labor Government's commitment to improving access to services for Western Australians."
