Palmerston Celebrates Women from Around World

This is the fourth year that STEPS Palmerston has played host to their annual International Women's Day event, a day to celebrate the achievements and successes of women both locally and abroad.

The theme for International Women's Day 2023 is 'Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender equal future', a concept that STEPS wholeheartedly supports with a large workforce comprising of 78% women across Australia.

With a wide footprint across the Northern Territory region, STEPS currently offer two highly effective and empowering programs in region to assist women (and men) including First Nations and migrant Australians to better their lives and skills to find employment.

These programs, the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) are a testament to the overarching vision of STEPS to make a difference by providing opportunity.

STEPS Group Australia managing director, Carmel Crouch, will be speaking at the event alongside a guest speaker panel of inspiring women who have overcome great odds and adversity in their lives.

"We are so excited to continue to service the Darwin community by improving the lives of migrants as well as indigenous and non-indigenous Australians through education," Ms Crouch said.

The celebration kicks off on Wednesday March 8th at 11:00am at Palmerston Recreation Centre (11 The Boulevard) for the fourth consecutive time, with an expected 200 people to attend.

Entertainment and activities on the day range from a multicultural lunch with cuisines from 12+ different countries, guest speaker panel, Welcome to Country ceremony, belly dancing and music, as well as the presence of Melaleuca Australia and BreastScreen NT who will be offering free screening on the day.

Ms Crouch has expressed her gratitude to the City of Palmerston and the Northern Territory Government for their assistance in providing a grant to support the event.

"It's wonderful to have the support of the local council and territory government who have once again made this event possible," Ms Crouch said.

"We have a great opportunity here to be able to further connect with the Northern Territory community and provide access to education and support systems to make a difference in the lives of people who need us most."
