An elderly man is in a critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Sydney's south yesterday.
About 2.00pm (Friday 4 June 2021), emergency services were called to Cope Street, Waterloo, near Raglan Street, after reports a male pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
Police have been told the pedestrian, an 88-year-old man, was crossing Cope Street when he was allegedly struck by a silver Toyota C-HR sedan, driven by a 64-year-old man.
The pedestrian was treated at the scene before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition, with head and leg injuries.
The 64-year-old driver of the Toyota was not injured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command established a crime scene and specialist investigators from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The driver was later taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The man was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 19 July 2021.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, or might have dash cam footage, to contact police.
