The redevelopment of the iconic Perth Concert Hall has achieved a significant milestone with the main works awarded to ADCO Constructions.
This year essential structural work was undertaken on the building and from early 2026, the redevelopment enters its next phase as major works begin to restore and rejuvenate the heritage-listed venue.
The main works package includes the redevelopment of the existing building, including new public internal spaces and foyers, new food and beverage outlets, upgraded backstage facilities and storage, new West Australian Symphony Orchestra administration, rehearsal rooms and instrument storage, new auditorium seating, and the redevelopment of the northern forecourt and landscaping.
The revitalisation works will ensure the preservation of the venue's distinctive character and world-class acoustics.
Originally designed by architects Jeffrey Howlett and Don Bailey, the venue was the first concert hall to be built in Australia after World War II, with its doors opening to the public on 26 January 1973.
An additional $23 million is included in the Cook Government's Mid-Year Review for future precinct connectivity.
The $173.3 million investment includes $127.3 million in State Government funding, $12 million from the Federal Government, $4 million from the City of Perth and $30 million from Woodside through the Resources Community Investment Initiative.
As stated by Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk:
"I am excited to see the redevelopment move into its next phase. Restoring and revitalising Perth's world-class Concert Hall will enhance the experience for both visitors and performers.
"The Cook Government wants to foster a vibrant and creative economy and ensuring our arts infrastructure is modern and fit for purpose will do just that.
"The Perth Concert Hall has shaped Western Australia's cultural life for decades. This investment will ensure it thrives while supporting creative careers and growing WA's creative industries."
As stated by Federal Member for Perth Patrick Gorman:
"For more than 50 years the people of Perth have enjoyed the arts at the Perth Concert Hall, and this milestone is great news for art lovers and performers in our city and beyond.
"This is just one of the key projects through which the Australian Government is investing $532.7 million to projects across our city.
"Together, they are helping improve Perth's liveability, our cultural and tourism industries, and to help add vibrancy and amenity to Perth's CBD and further develop our amazing city."
As stated by Perth MLA John Carey
"It's great to see this significant milestone reached on a project that will breathe new life into the iconic Perth Concert Hall.
"Our government has made substanital investments in a number of projects that will add vibrancy to the inner-city, including this redevelopment as well as the WACA redevelopment, ECU City Campus and a new inner-city primary school."
