Perth dangerous driving incident

Perth Detectives have charged a 27-year-old man after an incident in Perth that occurred around 4.45pm yesterday afternoon (14 August 2021).

Two men aged 33 and 28 were on Hay Street (opposite the Grosvenor Hotel) practicing Parkour on street furniture when the charged man who is unknown to them approached. It is alleged the man became verbally abusive to the victims before producing a knife and pointing it at them. A short time later the charged man walked away and the victims crossed the road and walked away along Hay Street towards Hill Street.

It is further alleged the charged man got into a white Toyota Prado, performing a U-turn in the middle of the road so he was facing the wrong way to oncoming traffic. A woman and child known to the man then got into the vehicle. It is alleged the man drove the Prado contraflow and aimed heavily in the direction of the victims, mounting the curb and hitting them both before crashing into a shop on Hay Street.

As a result of being struck by the Prado the 33-year-old man suffered serious injuries. The 28-year-old man was suffered a head injury. Both men were conveyed to Royal Perth Hospital.

The charged man got out of the Prado and was detained by members of the public prior to police arrival. He was also conveyed to Royal Perth Hospital with a broken leg. The woman and child were also injured in the crash. The child was taken to Perth Children's Hospital.

A 27-year-old man from Somerville is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today (15 August), charged with:-

• With Intent to Harm did an Act Causing Bodily Harm; and

• Dangerous Driving Occasioning Bodily Harm.
