Police are responding to fatal crash near Taree

A woman has died following a single-vehicle crash on the state's Mid North Coast yesterday.

About 4.30pm (Saturday 29 January 2022), emergency services were called to a trail off Smiths Road, Kiwarrak, about 10km south of Taree, after reports of a crash.

Police located a Jeep Wrangler that had slid down a steep incline on its roof.

The passenger – a 31-year-old woman – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however, died at the scene.

The driver – a 27-year-old man – was uninjured and taken to Manning Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Manning-Great Lakes Police District established a crime scene, which was forensically examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

The vehicle was seized and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash commenced.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
