Police arrest man after ramming and carjacking in Melbourne's south-east

Police have arrested a man following an alleged ramming and carjacking in Melbourne's south-east this afternoon.

Police on patrol in St Kilda observed an allegedly stolen Audi sedan travelling on Carlisle Street around 11.40am.

Police attempted to intercept the Audi, which allegedly rammed two police vehicles then drove away from the scene.

Investigators have been told the man, who was armed with an edged weapon, then drove to Elwood where he allegedly dumped the Audi and car-jacked a Volvo wagon.

With assistance from the Air Wing, police followed the vehicle, which was allegedly driving erratically through the St Kilda, Elwood and Brighton areas.

It is believed the man dumped the Volvo on Bright Street in East Brighton.

He allegedly then entered a property on Davies Street and threatened a resident with an edged weapon, before being chased from the property by the resident.

Police located the man inside a property on Cluden Street around 1.30pm.

Police negotiated with the man before he was arrested at the property around 2.45pm.

The 44-year-old Melton man is assisting police with their enquiries.
