Police have arrested a man following an assault in Williamstown this afternoon.
It is understood the victim, a 92-year-old woman, was approached by a man outside a shopping centre on Douglas Parade about 12.20pm.
Officers have been told the man struck the female in the head, before she fell to the pavement and lost consciousness.
The woman, who is from Williamstown, was taken to hospital with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The 39-year-old man was restrained by members of the public until police arrived a short time later.
The man, who is of no fixed address, is expected to be interviewed by Hobsons Crime Investigation Unit detectives in relation to the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
