Road maintenance and repair works will soon get underway across the State Road Network this spring.
Three regional contracts have been awarded to deliver the 2026-27 resurfacing program, with Roadways selected for the state's north-west and southern regions, and Hazell Bros selected for the north.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said 84 sites across Tasmania will undergo works.
"With the weather warming up, now is the perfect time for these works to be completed. We appreciate the patience of motorists while these works are underway," Minister Vincent said.
"The works include 16 sites totalling approximately 16 km on the Bass Highway, at Elizabeth Town, Carrick, Devonport, Turners Beach, Lillico, Ulverstone, Penguin, Chasm Creek and Heybridge.
"Later this month, contractors will start work preparing these sites for sealing, including water blasting, filling cracks and potholes, and removing line marking.
"The resurfacing is scheduled to take place between mid-October 2026 and early Autumn 2027, when conditions are warmer and drier.
"In addition to the resurfacing program, routine spring maintenance work will take place across the State Road Network, along with the statewide mowing program, vegetation management and drainage clearing.
"With a significant season of roadwork on the way, road users are encouraged to allow for extra travel time, to keep our road workers safe while they're at work delivering better roads for Tasmanians.
"A key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are delivering road upgrades to help Tasmanians get to their destination safely.
"Road users are reminded to slow down in work zones, follow the directions of traffic controllers and signage, and keep to the posted speed limits to help keep road workers and other road users safe."
During winter, maintenance crews completed hundreds of temporary pothole repairs to keep roads safe until weather conditions allowed for a more durable fix. With warmer weather arriving, contractors have returned to the Bass Highway between Parramatta Creek and Latrobe to complete longer-term repairs.
Motorists should allow an extra 15 minutes when travelling through a resurfacing site, and 5-10 minutes for less impactful maintenance work such as mowing.
While Building Tasmania's contractors regularly inspect all State Roads, any hazards or maintenance issues can be reported to the 24/7 State Road Network hotline on 1300 139 933.
