Police charge driver after fatal pedestrian crash - Canley Vale

A woman has been charged after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Canley Vale yesterday.

About 6.20am (Wednesday 4 January 2023), emergency services were called to the intersection of Canley Vale Road and Sackville Street at Canley Vale, following reports of a crash involving a 4WD and pedestrians.

One pedestrian – a 64-year-old woman - died at the scene.

A second female pedestrian, aged 65, was treated at the scene and taken to Liverpool hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

The driver of the 4WD – a 52-year-old woman – underwent mandatory testing at Liverpool Hospital before she was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous
  • Cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle
  • Negligent driving (occasioning death)
  • Negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm)
  • Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous
  • Not give way at lights to pedestrian on road being entered

The woman was granted conditional bail to appear before Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday 25 January 2023.

Her licence was also suspended.
