Police charge man after police pursuit - Northern Beaches

A man has been charged after a police pursuit in the Northern Beaches yesterday.

About 6pm (Tuesday 5 January 2021), officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command observed a Holden Crewman travel through a red light at the intersection of Ellis and Warringah Road, Beacon Hill.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle when the driver allegedly accelerated away, and a short pursuit was initiated.

The car later stopped on Iris Street, Frenchs Forest, and police spoke to the driver, a 47-year-old man, and a female passenger.

The driver and the vehicle were searched, with police allegedly locating prescription medication, 0.45 grams of methylamphetamine and a baton.

The man was arrested and taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing, which he allegedly refused. He was then taken to Manly Police Station where he was charged with:

  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously
  • Drive, licence suspended
  • Refuse or fail to submit to taking of blood sample
  • Proceed through red traffic light (not toll booth)
  • Possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit

The Balgowlah man was granted conditional bail to appear in Manly Local Court on Wednesday 13 January 2021.
