Police charge man after sexual assault of a child in 1992

Detectives from the Special Crime Squad – Serious Crime & Family Violence Team have charged a 57-year-old man over the sexual assault of a child that occurred in 1992.

It is alleged between 10am and 10.45am on Sunday 1 March 1992, three girls and one boy were playing in the enclosed playground of the Camboon Primary School located on Forder Road in Noranda when the man approached them.

It is further alleged he led a 10-year-old girl a short distance away from the other children before sexually assaulting her.

Advancements in DNA technology assisted detectives with new investigative leads which resulted in the arrest of the man yesterday, 16 February 2021.

The 57-year-old man from Kelmscott was charged with one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault and one count of Aggravated Indecent Assault. He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 17 February 2021.
