Police charge man with 3 fire in Cannington district

Today, Arson Squad detectives arrested a man as a result of their investigation into a series of fires in the Cannington District that occurred during the early hours of Monday, 1 August 2022.

It will be alleged the man threw two Molotov Cocktails at the front veranda of a home on Drummond Street in Redcliffe causing a fire. The occupant of the home was able to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher.

It will be further alleged the man poured a liquid accelerant over two vehicles in the driveway of a home on Belgravia Street in Belmont, also pouring the accelerant on the ground leading away from the vehicles to two Molotov Cocktails which failed to ignite.

It will also be alleged the man set fire to a vehicle parked in the carport of a unit on Mars Street in Carlisle. The fire spread to the ceiling of the carport before spreading to the roof of the unit. The damage bill is estimated at $250,000.

The 47-year-old man from Quinns Rocks has been charged with:-

• Two counts of Criminal Damage by Fire; and

• One count of Criminal Damage or Destruction of Property.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow, 6 August 2022.
