A man was arrested after an altercation in the city this afternoon.

Police were patrolling in Rundle Mall about 1.30pm on Wednesday 15 July when they stopped and spoke with a man on a bicycle. He initially gave officers a false name before running off.

Patrols chased the man on foot down to Pulteney Street where he was apprehended. As he was detained, a member of the public was struck, causing her to fall and hit her head on the pavement.

Police searched the man and located a flick knife and balaclava, along with drivers licences in other people's names in his possession.

Two police officers and the injured woman were treated at the scene by paramedics and transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

A 23-year-old man from Rosewater was charged with providing a false name, hindering and resisting police, assault, assaulting a prescribed emergency service worker, carrying an offensive weapon, unlawful possession and other traffic offences.

He was further charged with the aggravated robbery from June.

The man was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow, Thursday 16 July.
