Police charge man with domestic violence offences at Wollongong

A man will face court today charged with domestic violence offences allegedly committed in the Wollongong area at the weekend.

Shortly after 8pm on Saturday (28 March 2020), a man attended a home in East Corrimal and allegedly assaulted the female occupant.

The man, who is known to the woman, allegedly grabbed the woman's hair and forced her to the ground, before punching and slapping her in the face a number of times before fleeing

The matter was reported to police and an investigation commenced by officers from Wollongong Police District and the Southern Region Domestic Violence High Risk Offenders team.

The woman sustained bruising, swelling and cuts to her face, legs and arms as a result of the alleged assault.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 29-year-old man on Payne Street, Mangerton about 4.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 31 March 2020).

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with three counts of contravene AVO, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV) and stalk/intimidate (DV).

The man was refused bail and is due to face Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 1 April 2020).
