Two men have been charged following an investigation into graffiti murals and tagging on Sydney train carriages and rail infrastructure across Sydney.
In June 2021, officers attached to the Proactive Crime Team from the Police Transport Unit North/Central, commenced an investigation into the unlawful application of graffiti on train carriages and other rail infrastructure at Central, Merrylands, Strathfield and West Ryde Stations.
Following inquiries, police executed two search warrants yesterday (Wednesday 11 August 2021) at homes on Falconer Street in West Ryde and Forrest Street in Jesmond.
A 24-year-old man was arrested at West Ryde after police seized drugs, spray cans, sketch books and clothing.
The man was charged with cultivate prohibited drug, goods in custody, supply prohibited drug, two counts of possess prohibited drug, five counts of destroy/damage property in company, destroy/damage property, and three counts of enter/remain on running lines.
He was refused bail and appeared in Hornsby Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 11 August 2021).
Police also seized spray cans, sketch books, and clothing during the search warrant at Jesmond.
A 23-year-old man was arrested at Adamstown and taken to Newcastle Police Station. He was charged with five counts of destroy/damage property in company, and five counts of and enter/remain on running lines.
He was granted conditional bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 24 August 2021.
Safety is the number one priority for police and crime, property damage, anti-social behaviour or drug and alcohol use on our public transport networks will not be tolerated. Police will continue to target commuter safety, crime and anti-social behaviour on public transport, not just in the metropolitan areas but also on rural networks.
