Police discover loaded firearms in stolen car

Police from Melton and Caroline Springs have seized two loaded firearms, drugs and ammunition following the arrest of two men in Hillside this morning.

Officers were called to Queensbury Court following reports two men were loitering in the area about 12.30am.

When police arrived, they found the two men in an allegedly stolen 2014 red Mazda sedan.

The pair were arrested when they tried to walk off from police.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun, loaded sawn-off shotgun, ammunition and a substantial quantity of what is believed to be cannabis.

The pair, a 36-year-old from Sunshine and a 33-year-old from Hillside, are currently assisting detectives with their enquiries.

It is expected the men will be interviewed in relation to the theft of the car, possession of firearms and ammunition and traffick and possess cannabis.

Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives will seek to remand the men in custody to appear before court today.
