Police hold concerns for welfare of Valentine Bester

Police are concerned for the welfare of 19-year-old Valentine Bester from Roches Beach.

Valentine was reported by his friends as being overdue from a kayaking trip at 5.30pm this evening after setting off from Lauderdale Yacht Club Roches Beach at 11am.

He had the intention of travelling to Lime Bay possibly along the Seven Mile Beach and Carlton Beach coastline in a green 'sit-on-top' style kayak (as pictured).

An extensive search from the air and water is currently underway in Frederick Henry Bay involving the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, two marine vessels and the Dodges Ferry Volunteer Marine Rescue Unit. The large police vessel Police Vessel Cape Wickman will

also join the search tonight.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw Valentine at any stage today.

Police are particularly interested in speaking to the occupant of a white vehicle that was at Valentine's house at Roches Beach before 10:30am today who may have further information about his travel plans.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444.
