Police lay charges over two car-jackings, South Australia

A man has been charged after an investigation into two recent incidents where he allegedly stole cars and assaulted the drivers.

The first incident occurred just before 1am on Saturday 5 June. Police were called to King William Road in North Adelaide after a taxi driver was allegedly assaulted by a man and his white Toyota Prius stolen. The taxi was last seen heading north on O'Connell Street.

About an hour later the taxi was found dumped on Prospect Road near the corner of Marian Place, Prospect. Police searched the area but did not locate the suspect.

About 7pm on Tuesday 22 June a food delivery driver was stationary in his Nissan Pulsar in Northcote Street, Kilburn when he a man allegedly opened the driver's side door assaulted the driver and stole his car. The Pulsar was then involved in a crash at the intersection of Main North Road and Regency Road the man ran from the scene. Again police searched the area but did not locate the suspect.

About 2pm today, Monday 5 July, following an investigation Detectives from Eastern CIB attended a home in Kilburn. A man ran from the scene, police set up cordons in the area and called in police dogs PD Havoc and PD Marley to help search.

A short time later 19-year-old Kilburn man was located and arrested hiding in the backyard of a Stevens Avenue home.

The man has been charged with a raft if serious offences including 2 x assault, 2 x illegal use, 2 x drive without due care, unlicenced, fail to stop at a crash and unlawfully on premises.

He has been refused bail and will appear at the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.
