Police maintain watch over Outlaw Motorcycle Gang

Northern Territory Police are aware that members of the Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) are currently gathering in Alice Springs in preparation for their national run.

The Mongols OMCG plan to ride from Alice Springs to Darwin this week and are expected to arrive in the Top End on Friday afternoon.

Motorists using the Stuart Highway between Alice Springs and Darwin can expect to see large numbers of motorcycles riding in groups.

Commander Matthew Hollamby APM said "while motorists in the Northern Territory are used to driving with long road trains, clusters of motorcycles can be a bit different.

"All road users' safety is paramount and all road users should drive to the conditions and be cautious of the visibility limitations of motorcycle riders."

Police have launched Operation Lune to ensure the Mongols' activities are closely monitored.

Part of the operation will include a police presence at controlled intersections in Katherine to ensure the safe passage through the town.

Operation Lune has also resulted in the arrest of a 53-year-old man at Darwin Airport early this morning.

He was arrested for an outstanding warrant that was issued by the Darwin Local Court in 2015.

The matter relates to an alleged aggravated assault at a Darwin City nightclub in 2014.

The man will appear before the Darwin Local Court today.

Commander Hollamby APM said "Outlaw Motor Cycle Gangs, such as the Mongols, are known to be involved in organised crime.

"The Northern Territory Police in partnership with the Australian Federal Police and other partners as part of the National Anti-Gangs Squad continue to work in collaboration to disrupt and prevent criminal activities of Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs."
