Police make arrest - Stolen vehicle - Bakewell

Northern Territory Police have arrested two youths in relation to a vehicle that was stolen from a shopping centre carpark in Bakewell last night.

At around 6pm, the victim parked her vehicle to briefly enter a shop, leaving her 7-year-old in the back seat of the car. A 13-year-old female allegedly entered the vehicle and the 7-year-old has quickly exited and informed her mother inside the shop.

The 13-year-old drove away from the location and picked up a 12-year-old female.

Police apprehended the vehicle a short time later and arrested both youths, who were conveyed home and released into the care of responsible adults.

The pair will be summonsed at a later date.

Senior Sergeant Siiri Tennosaar said, "Police are still investigating the circumstances of this incident. I thank the members of the public who alerted police to the vehicle's location, which helped greatly in the quick apprehension of the two youths. It is also a timely reminder to ensure that your vehicles are secured at all times when left unattended as this appears to be an opportunistic theft."
