Police seek information after car fire at Wollongong

Police are investigating a suspicious car fire in Wollongong earlier this week.

Emergency services were called to a basement carpark at a unit on Smith Street, Wollongong, about 4.15am on Tuesday (20 December 2022), following reports of a car on fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the vehicle was destroyed.

The vehicle was unoccupied at the time and there were no reports of injury.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the cause of the fire, which is being treated as suspicious.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak with two unknown males seen near the unit garages shortly before the incident.

One male is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 170cm-175cm tall and of thin build. He was wearing a white mask and black Nike clothing.

The second male is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 175cm-180cm tall and of thin build. He was wearing dark coloured clothing and black, orange and white shoes.
