Armed Crime Squad detectives have released images and CCTV of two men they are looking to identify as part of their investigation into the non-fatal shooting of a man in Fawkner in June.
It's believed two occupants of a Mazda SUV fired shots into a Mercedes station wagon on Box Forest Road shortly before 12pm on 25 June.
The offending car fled, crashing into a fire hydrant and pole on Box Forest Road, near Sydney Road.
The two occupants ran from the damaged vehicle - one fled on foot and attempted to hide in a bin at the rear of a fast food restaurant on Sydney Road in Fawkner.
A second male carjacked a nearby Ford Territory wagon before driving it to Epping, where he was captured on CCTV walking the streets.
The Ford Territory was located in Brunswick Drive, Epping around 10pm.
The carjacking victims, a female driver and child, were not physically injured during the incident.
Investigators have today released images of the two men and a vehicle in the hope someone can provide information about their identity or whereabouts.
The offenders are perceived to be of Middle Eastern appearance, medium build, and approximately 18-20 years of age.
One of the men is believed to have attended a hardware store in Epping on June 15, where he purchased the two petrol cans which were located in the crashed Mazda SUV.
Police believe the petrol cans were purchased in preparation for destroying the vehicle after the shooting.
The victim, a 30-year-old Preston man, was taken to Fawkner Police Station with gunshot wounds.
He was transported to hospital in a critical condition but was later released.
Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack.
