Police update: Search and Rescue, Mossman Gorge

Cairns Police have spoken with the family of a 54-year-old woman missing in Mossman Gorge as the search and rescue operation has entered its recovery phase.

Extensive search and rescue efforts spanned six days to try to locate the woman who went missing in waters off Mossman Gorge around 2pm on Friday January 6.

The search utilised multiple land and aerial assets including the Rescue 510 helicopter, police and SES volunteers tracking through dense and hazardous bushland and QFES swift water rescue crews navigating fast flowing and dangerous waters.

Hopes have faded for the woman's safe return and her family have been notified and offered support.

To respect the privacy of the woman's bereaved family, no further updates on the recovery phase will be provided until after it has been completed.
