Queensland Govt Boosts Artist Funding for Global Market Reach

  • Queensland's independent artists and small to medium arts sector have today received a boost with the launch of two new funds to support visual arts and performing arts market development.

The Palaszczuk Government has launched new arts funding programs to boost Queensland's artists onto the national and international stage, showcase Queensland stories and deliver new opportunities for economic outcomes and sector growth.

Investment will support independent artists and small to medium arts companies and collectives access new markets and audiences, build networks and connections and drive career sustainability with the new Visual Arts Market Development Fund and Performing Arts Market Development Funds focused on showcasing and exhibiting work nationally and internationally.

These funds will work to grow market exposure and revenue potential and enhance Queensland's cultural reputation in the lead up to the Brisbane 2023 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Queensland curators, artists or groups of artists can access up to $60,000 through the Visual Arts Market Development Fund to showcase their work internationally or attend international markets, prioritising opportunities for First Nations visual artists, designers and curators during 2023-24.

The Performing Arts Market Development Fund offers up to $80,000 towards showcasing, or attending markets interstate or internationally, or up to $2,000 to bring presenters, promoters or reviewers to Queensland performances with a specific focus on contemporary music sector, including First Nations music practitioners and managers.
