The Crisafulli Government is delivering for regional arts workers and increasing access to the arts for all Queenslanders by fulfilling a suite of election commitments that revitalise local theatres and galleries.
The Phoenix Ensemble's community theatre is the latest project supported by the Crisafulli Government to undertake renovations at its Beenleigh Showgrounds home, which included floor improvements, new seating and carpeting.
It's just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future and a better lifestyle through a stronger economy after a decade of decline under Labor.
The not-for-profit theatre company has been producing award-winning community theatre for more than 30 years, providing opportunities for local performers to shine.
As part of the Phoenix Arts Academy, the company also hosts performance workshops for school aged students in the region, helping young and aspiring theatre makers to develop their skills in a nurturing environment.
The Crisafulli Government has supported upgrades to three regional organisations' facilities through funding of $90,000 to Phoenix Ensemble in Beenleigh, $100,000 to Wondai Art Gallery and $250,000 to Mackay Musical Comedy Players.
With a refreshed space, Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said the Phoenix Ensemble was ready to rise and usher in an exciting new era.
"The Crisafulli Government has delivered on its election promise to revitalise the home of this much-loved community theatre," Minister Langbroek said.
"After a decade of decline under the former Labor Government left regional arts workers crying out for more support, we're delivering for the Queensland's arts sector - exactly as we promised.
"Aligned with our Queensland's Time to Shine strategy, this work is about strengthening Queenslanders' access to enriching arts and cultural experiences.
"This adds to the election commitment we met to extend and enhance the Wondai Regional Art Gallery – a popular community hub in the South Burnett region.
"We've also finalised a funding agreement with Mackay Musical Comedy Players to upgrade their facilities, with works due to be completed later this year.
"We're committed to supporting artists and performers right across the State and ensuring that no matter where you live, Queenslanders have the opportunity to enjoy the arts."
Phoenix Ensemble President and Artistic Director Hayley Gervais said she was grateful for the support, which would strengthen the company's role as a vital cultural hub for the region.
"The replacement of the seating bank has significantly improved comfort, sightlines, and wheelchair accessibility, enhancing the overall experience for audiences and making the venue more inclusive," Ms Gervais said.
"These upgrades support local performers by fostering a more engaged and accessible audience environment.
"Looking ahead, the theatre is well positioned to focus on high-quality programming and deeper community engagement, supported by infrastructure that meets contemporary accessibility and audience comfort standards."
