Record $12M Donation Boosts Telethon Tally in WA

  • Milestone contribution supports Western Australian children in need
  • Donation to improve health outcomes by funding vital research and services
  • Record WA community donation builds on $11 million pledge in 2022

On behalf of the WA community, Premier Roger Cook has today handed over a $12 million cheque to Telethon, the biggest ever State Government contribution.

The historic donation will go directly to children's hospitals, medical research institutes and dozens of grassroots charities which improve the lives of young people and their families across the State.

These groups work to deliver equipment and services for kids in hospital, and life changing programs for children with disability.

Importantly, $2 million of the funding is for the WA Child Research Fund (WACRF), which supports child and adolescent health research that is delivering better outcomes for the future.

The State Government has a proud history of contributing to Telethon over many years, including an $11 million donation in 2022, and a $10 million donation in 2021.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"I'm so proud to be able to make this landmark donation on behalf of all Western Australians.

"For more than 50 years, Telethon has brought the State together for a cause we can all get behind.

"The generosity of Western Australians has helped to improve countless little lives, and given hope to families doing it tough.

"Telethon has become a WA tradition and I am so proud that our State Government can help this incredible organisation to continue its important work supporting children across the State."

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

"Telethon does so much good for our community, both at Perth Children's Hospital and across many, many other vitally important organisations.

"I am incredibly pleased that the Cook Government is able to, once again, make an historic contribution on behalf of the people of Western Australia, to help Telethon deliver important medical research and equipment.

"As Health Minister, I see firsthand the difference medical innovations, such as those funded by Telethon, make to the lives of unwell young people in our community and I thank them for this."
