Record SA representation at global biotech event

A group of South Australian medical and biotech companies representing the State at an international biotechnology convention in Boston this year will come together today and plan their pitches to global investors.

The 21-strong South Australian delegation – being supported by the Malinauskas Labor Government – is the largest the State has sent to BIO International Convention, being held in June.

The companies will meet at Adelaide Oval today for the BIO 2023 'Kick-Off Session' to prepare for the upcoming investment opportunities, share knowledge about what to expect and build industry awareness.

South Australian representatives include specialists in clinical trials and drug development to innovative medical device companies and academia.

BIO 2023 puts suppliers, researchers, manufacturers, customers, sponsors, distributors, investors and partners in one central location – providing delegates an invaluable opportunity to find new clients and source distribution deals.

More than $6 million worth of deals were struck for South Australian stakeholders at last year's BIO event.

Around 15,000 attendees are set to attend the world's premier health and biotechnology event, including 200 delegates from across Australia.

South Australia's world-class biomedical precinct on North Terrace recently attracted a $14 million deal from leading Japanese biotech company GEXVal, making Adelaide home to world-leading clinical trials for the treatment of neurological disorders.

Our State has a world-class BioMedical precinct with abundant investment opportunities, and is seen as a trailblazer on the global stage. This convention, in June, is that stage.

Today we are pulling together our local companies in the industry for a collaborative pitch to the global market when they head to Boston.

South Australia has a great story to tell in biotechnology and massive global companies have demonstrated this by investing millions to set up shop in our State.

When we share that story with the rest of the world – and when we do it as a united team – we strengthen our investment attraction.
